This week I watched the documentary “The Game Changer”, this documentary looked at various studies done that studied the difference between a plant-based diet and a meat diet. The documentary focused a lot on the impact of an athlete’s diet and their performance. The film follows James Wilks, an injured elite Special Forces trainer and winner of The Ultimate Fighter, who tries to find the most effective way to recover. After reading and studying Wilks decided to see if other athletes have had a positive impact from plant-based diets. He talked to different types of athletes that have changed their diet and all of the athletes said their performance completely changed, having more energy and stamina. Wilks becoming more interested in this diet met with doctors, they then explained the science behind plant protein vs meat protein. Protein from meat blocks your arteries, making it harder for oxygen to pass through, therefore making you tired faster. Protein from plants not only allowed clear passage through the arteries but also decreased inflammation of your muscles, so it decreases injuries. Clogged arteries can cause many dangerous things, including heart attacks. Those who gave up meat early on or never ate meat were much healthier later on in life and able to do more. Athletes were astonished once switching their meals because it went against everything we learned growing up, but helped so many athletes succeed.
